Amazing Organic Silk Scarves, Fairly Traded From S.E. Asia

We recently discovered Tammachat Natural Textiles and just had to feature them. Tammachat sources organic silk and cotton from Thailand and Laos, partners with local groups of women who do all the weaving, and then imports the gorgeous scarves and shawls for those of us in North America.

Everything they sell is fair trade and dyed with natural compounds, yielding rich colors and soft textures.

Ellen Agger, the woman behind Tammachat, emailed us to say she and her business partner Alleson Kase will be returning to Southeast Asia at the end of November for four months of scouting, learning, and choosing the best items to bring back to Canada.

The more they sell before the trip, she says, the more they can afford to buy from the weaving groups and provide income for those women. It seems to us that they run a very hands-on organization with solid ethical street cred.

Which is why we can’t wait to get our hands on one of these scarves, so chic for traveling this fall and winter!

Organic Silk Scarf in Glazed Taupe, $48 CAD at Tammachat.com.
