Personal Ethical Style Resolutions for 2010

New Year’s Resolutions. We all do it, whether we write them down, or keep a mental note of them(and lie that we haven’t made any).

So here are a few fashion resolutions I hope to keep this year!

Quality over quantity: I have too many clothes to start with. Buying one more unsustainable, non-versatile, and poorly made blouse only leads to me buying another one! Not only do I continue the cycle, but I create demand for clothing items that are the farthest thing from “ethical style.”

Say no to impulse buys: Well, most of them anyway! I want to think about each piece’s place in my wardrobe, and then make sure it’s well made out of good fabric. Organic Cotton, here I come.

Buy the “real deal”: I want more clothes and accessories made out of real materials–real leather, real cotton, real silk, real fur, and real linen to be exact. Purses, belts, boots, and flats. Blouses, suits, scarves, and jackets. I want a life with less polyester. “Plastic” by any other name….

Put in the time to be more creative: I never can seem to come up with a new outfit in the morning before work. I want to take the time to try out new combinations when I have time–like the night before.  A fashion rut is a very bad rut to be in, especially in the dreary month of January! If I do this, I will use more of the lovely clothes I have.

Finger crossed, I keep them! Hmm….I’d love to hear from you what your resolutions are.
