PETA Gets Nasty With Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall
Last week we told you about PETA’s criticism of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, for pairing faux with fur during her royal tour of Canada with Prince Charles. This week, after she wore a vintage fur-lined cape (pictured here), they’re continuing the verbal assault — by insulting the duchess’s grandmother.
[W]hile taking a tour of Dundurn Castle (once the home of her great-great-great-grandfather Sir Allan Napier MacNab), the Duchess stepped out in a fur cape inherited from her grandmother. A PETA spokesperson said, “The furs she’s dug up out of her grandmother’s wardrobe should have been left in peace, much like her grandmother.” PETA, please: No matter what your feelings on faux vs. fur, I think we can all agree that nobody’s grandmother should be brought into the argument.
Watch out, Camilla. Sounds like there’s a bucket of red paint somewhere with your name on it. (And as animal-rights activists have shown before, not even royals are exempt from physical attacks by extremists.)

I don’t like the fur industry one bit, but I really can’t get upset over vintage fur. It was made a long time ago; by wearing it, you aren’t supporting the industry.

If you are in the public sphere and a style icon then wearing fur is a statement to others who might buy fur. Wearing vintage fur may encourage others to buy fur. However, wearing leather and wool is just as bad and PETA says nothing about that.
