Green Beauty Companies Optimistic Despite Economy

At the Natural Products Expo West this month, beauty companies were upbeat about the future of the green cosmetics industry, according to WWD.
The Organic Consumers Association announced that great process had been made in eliminating 1,4-Dioxane, a known carcinogen and manufacturing by-product, in 23 products from 16 brands that were found last year to contain the petrochemical.
Many brands including Dr. Hauschka said that organic makeup is the fastest-growing segment of the industry. This fall, the natural brand is releasing a new eyeshadow palette, a powder blush duo, and a new shade of its Volume Mascara in pearl anthracite, all priced from $30 to $55.
In related news, Dr. Dennis Gross’s MD Skincare is set to release its Beauty In Toxins Out natural skincare collection for the body. The move marks one of the first times a clinical line has dipped a toe in the naturals market.
Also, Privé Products is soon coming out with its high-efficiency haircare line Concept Vert. The parabens-free formula was developed to pack twice the cleansing and conditioning power in each product, allowing consumers to use a smaller dollop every time they wash or style their hair. The Rejuvenating Pure Shampoo will retail for $28 and the Rejuvenating Pure Conditioner for $30, available April 22.
