Vintage Shopping Tips From The Masters

seaofshoes-vintage-guide

We just recently came across Jane from Sea of Shoes, the teenage blogger with the truly jaw-dropping wardrobe. We love this girl because she isn’t afraid to dress to the nines, even for a dentist appointment.

Jane has unattainably cool personal style and it’s clearly genetic. Her mom Judy, a former fashion insider and frequent blog contributor, shared her tips for successful vintage hunting. The best secondhand shop? EBay.

When using eBay to search for designer vintage items, first start with a designer that you like; for example: Yves Saint Laurent.

First type “vintage Yves Saint Laurent” into the search engine.
Then try- “vintage YSL”
“YSL jacket”
“Yves Saint Laurent jacket”
“YSL dress”
“Yves Saint Laurent dress”
etc….

Another good search technique is to choose the era of your design of choice. Let’s use the 80′s.
Here are some searches I would run for 80′s vintage:
80′s dress
80′s jacket
80′s bolero
80′s bolero ruffles
80′s silk ruffles
80′s silk dres
80′s dolman sleeves/batwing
80′s silk ruffle dress
etc etc!

The mother-daughter team also reminds you to switch up your search terms to maximize results, since there’s no one-size-fits-all technique for sellers who are listing vintage clothes. And you can always bring your finds in to a good tailor to make them just right.
