When Stars Wear the Same Thing Twice

The New York Observer has a great point about approaching style during the recession: There’s nothing wrong with revisiting a favorite outfit instead of popping into Forever 21 for a new dress to wear to a holiday party.

Fashion scribe Meredith Bryan wrote:

The queasy-making economy has already affected fashion in subtle ways. For example, the long-held idea that one should never be photographed twice in the same dress? “Lame,” declared socialite and estate jewelry executive Fabiola Beracasa. Wearing the same thing repeatedly now has a sacrificial, “we’re all in this together” feel to it, like filling your coffee mug with the office-kitchen sludge instead of making another $6 latte run to Starbucks. Even Vogue editor Anna Wintour is on board, having worn the same turquoise Oscar de la Renta dress to no fewer than four public events this summer, as previously noted by The Observer.

It’s the anti-trend trend, but one that supports personal style instead of encouraging consumers to constantly evolve in their look.

However, as a culture we need to stop giving celebrities such a hard time for repeating outfits, like this critique of reality TV star Heidi Montag for wearing the same dress and booties by Chloe twice in a month. Heidi may be airheaded but what she’s doing seems mindful to us!
