Bizarro Luxury From the New ‘Real Housewives’

Just for the record, this is not what we have in mind when we say look for lasting, high-quality garments:

If you thought the “Real Housewives of New York City” had their share of Botox and “it” bags, wait until you see what’s happening in Atlanta…

On the preview episode of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” which premieres Oct. 7 at 9 p.m., housewife Sheree Whitfield splurges on a “Botox bag.”

“It’s a lot softer than your average python bag,” says Whitfield of her $3,650 Zagliani tote. “Plus, it’s a talking point, and none of my friends have one.”

For today’s wealthiest women, skin-rejuvenating injectables don’t just promise an ageless face, they can also promise an ageless purse, thanks to the work of former dermatology medical student Mauro Orietti-Carella, the design mastermind behind Zagliani totes, now dubbed “the Botox bags.”

Read the rest here if you’re not nauseous already. But we feel that these bags are such a waste and a pretender to true luxury. Botoxing python skin does nothing because Botox creates smoothness by paralyzing muscle tissue, which is stripped once the snake is skinned. That makes the bag pure status symbolism with no added value whatsoever except for the perception of enhancement. And that’s not what quality is about.
